How to use the business waste calculator in Health and Social Care settings

Follow these simple steps to calculate your workplace waste. Where necessary, you can get information on your general waste from your current waste .

Some materials have a market value. If your workplace produces, for example, a large quantity of cardboard, you may find service providers will collect it at a reduced charge.

Step 1

Input how much general waste is already being collected from your premises. using either:

  • Waste audit data  

  • The typical waste composition already in the calculator 

Step 2

Input information on your current bins:

  • What containers do you use to dispose of your waste?

  • How often are they collected?

  • How full are they when collected?

Step 3

Input how much you pay to have your waste collected.

Step 4

Input how much space you have available for . It’s fine to use an estimate if you’re not sure exactly how much space you have available, or if space is restricted due to your location.

The calculator will now generate the results, which you can alter to suit your preferences. For example, you might want it to recommend a solution based on the lowest cost or the best use of your available space.
